Cabo San Lucas – Villa del Palmar

We checked into the Villa del Palmar early January after spending a week at the Casa Dorada (I’ll put up a separate post on that one.)  Cabo San Lucas is Mexico’s premier destination at the tip of the Baja peninsula.   If you have never been there and you expect to be able to swim in the Sea of Cortez, be sure and do your homework.  Very few of the resorts are actually located on swimmable beaches.   With maybe a couple of exceptions, about the only resorts that are truly on swimmable beaches are very near the harbor, where they are protected by the peninsula that runs out to the famous arch.

People swim at the Villa del Palmar, but you will find warning flags up almost every day.  So, your best bet is to either enjoy the pools or walk towards the harbor area.  It is hard to recommend a perfect answer.  If you head to the swimmable areas near the harbor you will find more people, more water sports, etc.  If you stay on the beach at the Villa del Mar you will have a great view of the arch and won’t have to contend with quite as much traffic.  We have stayed at several locations in Cabo that don’t have swimmable beaches and we have stayed closer to the harbor.  We enjoyed all of them.

If you stay at the Villa del Palmar, you can relax on a lounge chair or partake in exciting activities at the beach or at the pool featuring ‘Willy the Whale’.  Amenities include private white sand beach, large pool, gourmet restaurants, deli, market, ice cream corner, private chef for in-suite dining, room service, spa, fully equipped large fitness center, daily activities, fishing and diving trips.  In the evening enjoy the fantastic shows or take a short walk (15 minutes)  to downtown Cabo for lots of shopping, dining, or dancing into the wee hours of the night.

Our timeshare options at the Villa del Palmar are pretty flexible.  The floor plans options include studio, 1-bedroom, and 2-bedroom with complete kitchen, dining area, and living room with pullout couch.

Price: $800 – $2500 depending on size and time of year (i.e., $800 for studio May-Oct) and based on availability.  Cabo San Lucas is a high demand destination.  The quality of the Villa del Palmar and its proximty to the harbor area means it is in higher demand than the average resort in Cabo San Lucas.   It is best to try booking 10-24  months prior to arrival date.
